The header often serves as a table of contents for the storefront, featuring key navigation links that you set up in the Navigation settings of the Shopify admin.
Use the Header settings to select menus to display, add mega menu, add mega menu with sidebar, and multi-column single menu for your header navigation.
Select menus to display
Empire now features two menu options for the header navigation: First menu and Second menu.
If you need more menu options, consider expanding Empire's header with the Utility bar.
By default, the theme will include your Main menu as the first. To switch to another menu, click Change.
Add menus two both menus to split the header navigation to the left and right sides. To have one navigation menu spanning the full header, use only the first menu option.
Add mega menus
Click the toggle beside Header, then one of the preloaded Mega menu blocks to customize it.
Add more by selecting (+) Add block, then Mega menu.
Mega menu trigger
The Mega menu trigger (previously Mega navigation trigger) identifies which item the menu feature will stem from. Enter matching text to connect the mega menu to the menu item (e.g. if there is a menu item called “Shop”, you would type Shop into the trigger field).
This feature is limited to letters included in U.S. Standard QWERTY Keyboards. The platform is unable to recognize characters and symbols from other alphabets or scripts, such as Cyrillic or Kanji. Confirm you are using standard characters from the English alphabet for the best results.
Include a custom image or two
The Mega menu also includes promotional Custom image blocks to highlight certain sales.
Click Select image, then add Text and Link using the provided fields.
Using the Position dropdown, specify how this custom image will display with your mega menu links. There are two options, positioning the Custom image before or after the menu columns.
The options are:
- First column
- Last column
Customize the Size of the Custom image block by using the dropdown.
The options are:
- Small
- Medium
- Large
Add a mega menu with sidebar
A recent addition to Empire's navigation options, Mega menu with sidebar provides an engaging alternative to mega menus.
Select (+) Add block, then Mega menu with sidebar.
The Mega menu trigger identifies which menu item the menu feature will stem from. Enter matching text to connect the mega menu to the menu item (e.g. if there is a menu item called “Catalog” you would type Catalog into the trigger field). This feature works best if your menu item has been turned into a drop-down menu in your Shopify admin.
Adjust submenu layout
Select one of three options to change the Submenu layout for the menu tiers.
The options are:
- Text columns
- Product image grid
- Collection image grid
To further adjust the images included in the second and third options, select an option from Image aspect ratio. Then Enable image crop to control how the images fit into their containers.
Add a multi-column single menu
An alternative to Mega menus is the Multi-column single menu. This feature converts a dropdown menu into a grid-style layout. This option is valuable for dropdowns that contain many items within one category (e.g. brand lists, sports teams).
Select (+) Add block, then Multi-column single menu to add this menu option.
Identify menu item to convert
Add the menu item title into the Menu trigger field to modify that item's dropdown.
This feature is limited to letters included in U.S. Standard QWERTY Keyboards. The platform is unable to recognize characters and symbols from other alphabets or scripts, such as Cyrillic or Kanji. Confirm you are using standard characters from the English alphabet for the best results.
