Vesper Theme Manual
Please note that this theme currently has limited support, meaning we may provide bug fixes and security updates, but are not regularly updating it. As of March 31, 2018 we will be discontinuing support completely for our WordPress and Tumblr products. Thank you for understanding.
Vesper is the photography portfolio you didn't know you were waiting for. Its minimal grid-based design has been thoughtfully stripped down, directing all the attention to your content. The final addition to our Cascadian suite, Vesper is as pristine and timeless as its namesake peak.
- A minimal header shows off your content without distraction. Want more? Add a description or a title.
- Choose between a full bleed layout, or use gutters to introduce more white space.
- Smart photosets adjust your photos to a uniform width without compromising their resolution.
- Choose between pagination or infinite scroll.
- Easily create custom pages, links to other social media, and setup site-tracking and commenting systems.
Starting from scratch? Take a look at our guide on how to install your Tumblr theme.
By default, Vesper displays gutters between your posts and automatically adjusts the spacing to suit the size of your browser window. However, if your content is primarily photo-based and you'd like to maximize the square footage of your site, then toggle off Use Grid Gutters to display your posts edge to edge.
Show Tags on Index Page
As you explore the index page, a subtle grey overlay is triggered on photo posts to display their metadata. If you'd like to see a photo's tags appear in the same area, enable Show Tags On Index.
Zoom Photoset Hover
By default, when you hover over a photoset on the index page, it will zoom to display the second image from that set - creating visual interest that's subtle, yet dynamic. This option is easily disabled by toggling Zoom Photoset Hover OFF.
Vesper loads content in pages by default. However, you can toggle Click To Load Posts ON to enable dynamic-loading of more posts. Without reloading the browser, Vesper automatically situates the page at the beginning of unseen content. Of course, you'll have the ability to scroll up to revisit the posts you've already seen.
Custom Footer Text
Use the Footer Text input to display a custom note or copyright in the footer.
Social Media Links
Display icons linking to over 20 social media sites by simply inputting your username or URL. These links are displayed in the footer.
Vesper comes with built-in support for Google Analytics tracking. Just create a new property for your Tumblr address and paste the tracking ID in to the GA Property ID field in your blog's Customization Panel .
Post and Page Settings
By default, all images will be displayed at their original resolution, up to a maximum of 1280 pixels wide. However, for the sake of uniformity, you can enable both Cap Media Width (reducing the maximum post width to 800 pixels wide), and Expand Small Images (stretching images to the set maximum width while maintaining their aspect ratio).
By default, photosets display on the permalink page exactly as arranged on the Tumblr dashboard. Toggling ON Stacked Photosets displays your photos one-on-top-of-another in high resolution. This setting takes advantage of Vesper's built-in "Smart" photoset layout, which automatically determines the appropriate maximum width at which your photos should display.
Vesper supports Facebook and Disqus commenting systems.
- To setup Facebook commenting, simply input your Facebook Username and API ID and toggle ON the Facebook Comments box within the Customization Panel .
- To enable Disqus commenting, all you have to do it supply your Disqus Shortname . If you don't already have one, you can sign up for a free Disqus account. Once you have your unique Disqus Shortname all you need to do is pop it into the appropriate field in your blog's Customization Panel .
Vesper supports additional pages. Simply create a new custom page in the Customization Panel . A link will automatically be displayed in your header's navigation links.
Tumblr offers a handful Advanced settings tucked away in the customization panel (at the bottom!) that can be significant in molding your blog the way you like it. We suggest that you toggle off the Use default mobile theme option, so your Vesper theme can be seen across all devices. You can control how many Posts per page are displayed, which can go a long way in the presentation of your content.
