Reach's products and collections
Your products and collection pages are the raison d'être of your eCommerce store. They're where you display your products, convey their value, and, if you're lucky, make the sale.
You'll upload and configure your products and collections in the Shopify admin (you can read more about that here), but when it comes to customizing how they display, you'll do that within the theme editor (Customize). In the theme editor, navigate to the page in the by using the page selector drop-down. In the left side controller, you'll notice special settings. We'll give you the rundown on these settings for each page below.
The product page is where you highlight the features and benefits of your individual products. In Reach, it contains the product title, images, description, price, add-to-cart button, testimonials, and related products.
Testimonials are a great way to build trust with customers and establish your brand's presence. Use this section on the product page to showcase testimonials from past and current customers. It's also a great way to cross-promote, since the same testimonials display on all of your product pages. This way customers don't have to leave the product page to read positive reviews about your company and other products.
Enter an optional Heading and Subheading in the corresponding fields to introduce your testimonials and choose a Background style from the associated drop-down.
Click on a Name block to begin. Add the source's name in the Name field, then a Link to their social profile, and lastly their testimonial in the Caption box. If you want to include the platform source for the testimonial, you can choose between Facebook, Twitter, or, if the testimonial is from another source, you can choose Standard to show a regular quotation icon. You can also link to the specific product the testimonial references by clicking Select product in the Product section.
Note: If you don't wish to show the testimonial section at all on product pages, remove all testimonial content (including placeholder content) and remove any text from the Heading and Subheading fields.
Enabling related products allows customers to discover other items that are similar to the one they are currently viewing. Related products will pull from the collection associated with the product, ordered by whatever order that collection has been set to, and ignoring itself in the list of products. If the product belongs to multiple collections, it will pull from the first one (alphabetically).
Enter an optional Heading and Subheading in the respective fields and adjust the number of products you want to show in the Related Products area. Reach can show up to twelve related products. Choose which style of background you'd like to show, Default or Alternate, and click Save.
A collection page displays all of the products in a given collection. You can configure your collections from within your Shopify admin (more information here). In Reach, you can customize your collection pages by navigating to a collection in the theme editor and clicking on Collection pages under the Sections tab.
If you would like to display the collection image for your collections, you can check the Show collection image option at the top of the Settings for collection pages. Collection images can be uploaded in your Shopify admin under Products>Collections and then clicking on a collection and uploading an image to the Collection image area in the right-hand column.
You can also display two different types of dropdowns to help customers sort and filter through your collection pages. Clicking the Show "Sort by" box will display a drop-down at the top of your collection pages and, when clicked, users will be able to sort products by: Featured, Price: Low to High, Price: High to Low, A-Z, Z-A, Oldest to Newest, Newest to Oldest, and Best Selling.
Reach has a customizable filtering system built right into the collection pages. You can select which filters are dispayed: by tag, by group or hide them altogether. If you display them by tag, all of the tags you have used in any of your collections will be displayed as checkable boxes when a customer clicks on the Filter by drop-down. You can add and edit tags for each of your products in the Shopify admin, under Products>[Product name]>Organization>Tags:
If you have a lot of tags, you can choose to show them by group. This means that each tag will be displayed in a column under a filtering category. For example, if you have many sizes of products within a collection, filtering by group would show all of your sizes shown under a Size category at the top of the column. This allows customers to easily view which filters you offer.
To set up filtering by group, you'll need to navigate back to the same Tags field on a product page within the Shopify admin, but you'll "prepend" (or add something to the beginning) existing tags with the name of the group you want them to be in, with the following format: Group_Tag name
It's very important that you use the Group_Tag name format, where the left side of the underscore is the group name (or filter category) and the right is the tag for the product. Spaces can be included on either side of the underscore, but no special characters. It will look like this:
Reach also allows you to adjust how many products are shown per page - it shows as few as 4 and as many as 12 per page. Choose what fits best for your catalog by dragging the slider to the left or right, and click Save.
